Smartphones are upgrading at a very fast speed. Just a few days ago, we had Samsung Galaxy S5 which was the finest addition in the Samsung Galaxy S series.

However, just after few months, we saw Samsung Galaxy S6, which is now the latest phone in the same series. So, what changes are done in the phone in such a short span? The question arises, how Samsung Galaxy S6 is better than Samsung Galaxy S5?

There is not much difference in terms of dimension and weight. Galaxy S6 is thinner and lighter as compared with Galaxy S5 but, overall both the phone has got similar dimensions.

Although, there is a lot of difference in terms of material. Galaxy S5 has a plastic body and doesn’t look like a flagship premium phone.

However, Galaxy S6 features a perfect blend of Glass and Aluminium as a material with metal chassis all along it. It features corning gorilla glass on the back side too which is the reason why it has got non-removal back.

But, Galaxy S6 falls short in terms of waterproofing. S5 features an IP67 rating making it a waterproof device but, it is not the case with S6.

The speakers in the S5 were located at the back of the device while in S6 they are placed at the bottom of the phone, which results in clear and loud sound.

Also, the 3.5 mm jack is now placed at the bottom in S6 unlike S5, where it was placed at the top of the device. There is a slight improvement in the build of buttons and volume rocker.


Both S5 and S6 features a 5.1” super AMOLED display but, there are few changes in terms of resolution. Samsung Galaxy S5 had a best screen in the market with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and 432 ppi. However, now it is replaced by S6 which features a 2560×1440 pixel resolution display with 577

Samsung Galaxy S6 looks strong and powerful on paper and even delivers in benchmarks. But, it falls short in terms of a battery as S5 had a better battery and it can deliver more hours of usage as compared with S6. 

Apart from that, S6 uses a 64 –bit chip which is more compatible with latest version of Android as compared with 32- bit chip in S5. There are almost no or minute changes in terms of UI and both phones feature Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI.

Samsung has done a lot of improvement in the camera section. S5 had a stunning camera and it could deliver some amazing photos but, S6 is even better with an addition of Sony Sensor and Optical Image Stabilization. S6’s camera captures more color, light and adds even more details to the image as compared with S5.

Galaxy S5, 16 GB model will now cost you around INR 27k-30k depending on the color you are going for. Galaxy S6, 32GB model will cost you INR 42k and the 64GB model will cost you INR 60k. There is no 16GB version of S6 series.

Samsung Galaxy S6 has got the looks and is powerful as compared with Samsung Galaxy S5. It has got a better camera, a better processor, and better design. Although, there is a huge difference in price but, it is worth spending for. If you are planning to upgrade from S5 to S6, you have got every reason to do so.
